Modified Pilates

At East Devon Physio we now offer a Modified Pilates Rehabilitation Programme.

Modified Pilates was developed by physiotherapists from Traditional Pilates and targets the deep postural muscles of the trunk to improve overall central core stability and posture. It teaches focus on the five key elements of lateral breathing and correct alignment of the head, neck, shoulders, spine and pelvis. This greatly improves co-ordination of movement. The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI)

Modified Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and can be particularly effective for:

  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Post Orthopaedic surgery
  • Women's health problems
  • Postural problems
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Stress related illness
  • Neurological conditions

Modified Pilates is not suitable for:

  • Any condition that causes severe pain or limits ability to get up and down from the floor.
  • Uncontrolled heart problems

Classes are instructed by Heather Martin, Libby Deacon and Shelley Walls who are all members of the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.
